McClurg’s was primarily a bookstore founded in 1844 in Chicago, but they sold a wide variety of household items.
HEAD
: traditional oval shape; stock is square at the shoulders and square as it goes around the top of the head; top rail of the head shows expected wear.  Head retains
traces of original tan wash paint in the wood grain

FRAME:
excellent condition; traces of original tan wash paint in the wood grain on the shaft and shoulders
THROAT WEDGE:
1905 patent convex 5-piece wedge
STRINGS
: original thick animal gut as shown
BANDING
: shadow lines indicate it had early version tape banding; none of that banding remains
DECALS
: as shown
HANDLE / GRIP:
4 5/8 inches actual size; never had grip material; has checkered or cross-hatched grip on the four “wide” facets
